History of Coconut Thai - Coconut Thai Restaurant is established in March 2002.Coconut Thai Restaurant has been known for serving up quality Thai cuisine in Illawarra region. Since February 2003, the restaurant has been managed by John Paopeng and his team. The restaurant business has taken to its new heights with his emphasis on creative yet authentic quality Thai cuisine and excellent customer service.
John Paopeng is young, dynamic, and enthusiast entrepreneur. John is a Computer Science graduate from University of Wollongong. He first started his hospitality career with Jack Style Thai Restaurant Pty Ltd in Bowral; Southern Highland, NSW in 2001 after working in IT industry of four years. At Jack Style Thai Restaurant, John was the key wait-person who managed the restaurant in the absence of the upper management. His main responsibility included stock taking on daily basis and accounting for daily earnings. In Feb 2003, John took over the management of the Coconut Thai Restaurant, Wollongong. The business in Coconut Thai has improved tremendously both in quality of food and standard of service it has been under John management.
The Product itself - Coconut Thai has the biggest range of the menu among Thai restaurant in Illawarra region. Perhaps, might be the biggest range of Thai restaurant in NSW. Especially our vegetarian menu, we are considered one of the restaurants that have the biggest range of the vegetarian menu.
We are only the Thai restaurant in Wollongong that has the "Thai North-eastern Style" of cuisine. Thai North-eastern cuisine is one of the most famous and popular Thai cuisine. Thai North-eastern cuisine is easy to find in Thailand while it is hard to find in Thai restaurant in Australia, because it is hard to prepare and only Thai or people who have been living in Thailand will appreciated this Thai North-eastern style of cuisine. That is because Thai North-eastern cuisine is spicy and the way of cooking is unique and different from the normal Thai cuisine. Not many people are familiar with this type of cuisine.
As we provide this Thai North-eastern cuisine during the weekend, it has attracted some customer/visitors to come for a long drive and taste our Thai North-eastern cuisine. We has customer from Sydney and Nowra who drove all the way to Wollongong to have our Thai North-eastern cuisine during the weekend.
We are pay special attention on how the presentation of our food will be turn out. We would like to create the WOW factor and WOW moment for our customer. Especially, visitors from other cities. So far our customers and visitors have been very much impressed on our dishes presentation.
